Position Overview: 

The Fiscal Manager will be responsible for all financial data of the organization. This person will align financial management and budgets with the organization’s strategic plan. They will assist in financial decisions, development and management of all fiscal duties. The ideal candidate will have a keen ability to work as a team member, communicate well, and have a strong background in financial management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Review, code, and process all financial transactions (payables, receivables, invoicing, etc.)
  • Maintain all financial records and vendor files
  • Process payroll and make all applicable payroll payments including taxes and benefits
  • Audit employee expenses for compliance with company policy
  • Process and monitor company credit cards including collection and review of staff receipts
  • Reconcile organization accounts
  • Prepare financial reports as requested and for each monthly board meeting and finance committee meetings
  • Oversee annual external audit and ensure necessary systems to maintain proper records and accounting controls.
  • Assist leadership with important financial decisions using cost analysis, risk and opportunities, and other forecasting methods.
  • Build the annual budget and suggest amendments as needed with the Executive Director and leadership staff.
  • Monitor budget closely throughout the year
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, accounting principles, and reporting standards.
  • Work closely with finance committee to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper financial management
  • Conduct financial decisions that align with organizational strategy and mission
  • Order supplies, equipment, and manage inventory
  • Prepare the organization’s Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards
  • Prepare financial information for organization’s 990 tax return
  • Collaborate with organization’s accounting contractors
  • Assist in maintaining policies surrounding proper internal controls and all financial management

Grant Management & Programs Support

  • Support the leadership team with grant financial reporting
  • Collaborate with program leadership on financial sustainability of programs
  • Perform grant financial reports according to grant deadlines
  • Perform grant reimbursement requests to ensure proper cash flow
  • Track all grant budgets for proper financial management
  • Support the leadership team with grant applications by offering financial information and preparing grant proposal budgets

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or another related field. Also, would except 7+ years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and FASB pronouncements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State annual reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of management practices within a complex budgetary environment
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Excellent planning, organization, and communication skills to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of electronic financial systems (QuickBooks Online, PayPal, online banking, etc)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials
  • Ability to operate strategically and on a detailed level
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in nonprofit financial management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of annual financial reporting audit processes
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
  • Knowledge of non-profit standard business practices preferred

Position Overview:

The Conservation Director will lead the Ranchers Stewardship Alliance’s (RSA) conservation efforts, focusing on enhancing wildlife habitat, promoting sustainable ranching practices, and supporting community-led conservation initiatives. This position will oversee the Conservation Committee, manage RSA Conservation Programs, and provide leadership for the Montana Grasslands Partnership. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in wildlife biology, project management, conservation, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Organizing the Conservation Committee:
    • Coordinate and facilitate Conservation Committee meetings.
    • Develop and implement strategic plans in collaboration with committee members.
    • Ensure alignment of conservation activities with RSA’s mission and goals.
    • Foster collaboration and communication among committee members, partners, and stakeholders.
  2. Managing RSA Conservation Programs:
    • Provide coaching, mentoring, vision, and leadership for all conservation program staff (currently 2 people)
    • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of RSA’s conservation programs
    • Develop, implement and maintain conservation program strategic plan in alignment with organization’s strategic plan
    • Provide management, leadership and financial oversight of conservation program: timely completion of project deliverables, contract oversight, budgeting, reviewing proposals, grants, and agreements.
    • Secure funding through grants, partnerships, and other resources to support conservation initiatives.
    • Collaborate with financial staff to maintain conservation program budgets and financial sustainability.
    • Ensure Conservation Program compliance with all awards, contract, and agreements.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with landowners, government agencies, non-profits, and other stakeholders.
    • Provide technical assistance and guidance to landowners on conservation practices and habitat management.
    • Monitor and report on program outcomes and effectiveness.
    • Oversee project implementation needs of contracted actions.
    • Keep current with land conservation industry topics and developments.
    • Guide program growth through partnership network, grant writing, and development activities
  3. Leadership of the Montana Grasslands Partnership:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Montana Grasslands Partnership.
    • Lead efforts to promote sustainable grazing practices and grassland conservation.
    • Coordinate with partners to identify and address key conservation challenges and opportunities.
    • Advocate for policies and practices that support grassland ecosystems and ranching communities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Range Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in conservation, wildlife biology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in program management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strategic thinker and ability to provide programmatic vision
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with ranching communities and understanding of sustainable grazing practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using GIS and other relevant software tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with grant writing and fundraising.
  • Knowledge of regional conservation issues and practices in Montana.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and policy frameworks related to wildlife and habitat conservation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education or program management, with a deep understanding of rural communities and the agriculture industry. As an Education Program Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing educational programs that benefit ranchers and agricultural stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and implement an annual educational program strategic plan.
  • Set an educational offering schedule on an annual basis.
  • Develop and implement educational programs tailored to the needs of rural communities and the agriculture industry.
  • Engage with ranchers and other agricultural stakeholders to understand their educational needs and interests.
  • Develop and implement educational programs that foster understanding of rural perspectives and concerns among urban-oriented audiences, aiming to bridge the gap between communities and create lasting connections
  • Provide management, leadership and financial oversight of education program: timely completion of project deliverables, contract oversight, budgeting, reviewing proposals, grants, and agreements.
  • Collaborate with financial staff to maintain conservation program budgets and financial sustainability.
  • Coordinate workshops, seminars, and other educational events including all event details (advertising, venue, catering, speakers, etc)
  • Foster partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and agricultural institutions.
  • Lead organization’s Education Committee.
  • Create and distribute educational materials.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make improvements based on feedback and assessments.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in agriculture and education.
  • Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and other public forums.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks efficiently, ensuring deadlines are met and priorities are aligned.
  • Utilize virtual education platforms to deliver content effectively in both online and in-person scenarios.
