SUMMARY:Virtual Classroom: Mapping with Maida Series 3
DESCRIPTION:Mapping with Maida: Introduction to Stocking Rate Tools &amp\;
DIY Ranch Mapping  \nThe Zoom Link is the same for all three webinars.
(PLEASE NOTE: You will be registering for the entire series.  It is not
necessary to register for each webinar separately.)\nOverview of this Mapp
 ing Learning Series \nJanuary 6th\, 13th and 20th-  2pm-4pm\n\nThis lear
ning series offers an introduction and hands-on tutorial to three free map
ping applications commonly used in rangeland agriculture: the Rangeland An
alysis Platform (RAP) Production Explorer\, Stock Smart\, and Google Earth
Pro. RAP and Stock Smart are  stocking rate calculation tools that help
land managers assess forage production and make data-driven grazing manage
ment decisions. Google Earth Pro\, on the other hand\, will be used for do
-it-yourself ranch mapping\, allowing participants to create and save deta
iled maps of infrastructure such as fences\, pipelines\, and stock tanks.
Together\, these geospatial mapping tools can help support grazing managem
ent decisions and give landowners a practical and accessible ways to plan\
, visualize\, and manage rangeland resources. \n\nNo prior mapping experi
ence is needed—this series is designed for beginners! All tools and serv
ices covered are open source\, completely free\, and best accessed on a co
mputer (tablets are not recommended). \nThe course will be led by Maida K
napton\, Mapping &amp\; GIS Specialist at the Ranchers Stewardship Allianc
 e. Maida brings expertise in mapping education\, technical support for pro
 ducers\, data analysis\, and drone imaging\, making her a valuable guide t
 hroughout this series. \nAbout the Stocking Rate Calculation Tools &amp\;
Google Earth Pro \nThe Range Land Analysis Platform (RAP) Production Exp
lorer &amp\; Stock Smart are online mapping tools that utilize satellite i
magery to map and monitor vegetation across the rangelands of the United S
tates. The RAP Production Explorer is useful in monitoring and analyzing t
rends in range conditions across time since 1989 and calculating pasture s
pecific stocking numbers based on heard variables. Stock Smart is useful i
n monitoring present day vegetation conditions and calculating stocking nu
mbers based on factors in heard variables and physical grazing variables s
uch as water source locations\, grass utilization\, and slope. \n\nGoogle
Earth Pro is a desktop application that offers powerful mapping tools for
both professional and casual users. Users can utilize tools for measuring
  distance\, area\, and elevation\, draw points\, lines and polygons\, impo
rt and export map data\, and explore satellite imagery from both the past
and present. Additionally\, the points\, lines\, and polygons you make in
Google Earth Pro can be exported and used in other applications such as On
X\, RAP Production Explorer\, and Stock Smart. Whether you're customizing
 maps\, checking out land features\, planning out a pipeline\, sharing a ga
te location with a neighbor\, or trying to get the most out of a pasture\,
it's a handy tool for all kinds of mapping needs.  \nDetailed Schedule
\nThe virtual learning series will include three 2-hour blocks in total
throughout January 2026. See the schedule below for more details.    \
 n\n\n\nDate &amp\; Time \nLearning Overview \nRequired Materials \n\n\n
 Tuesday January 6th from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 1: Introduction to the Rang
eland Analysis Platform Production Explorer\, Stock Smart\, &amp\; a quick
overview of the significance of Google Earth Pro in ranch mapping.  \nCo
 mputer &amp\; Internet \n\n\nTuesday January 13th from 2pm – 4pm \nSer
ies 2: Do It Yourself (DIY) ranch mapping &amp\; inventory in Google Earth
Pro. How to map\, save and export landscape features.  \nComputer &amp\
 ; Internet \n\n\nTuesday January 20th from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 3: Quest
 ion &amp\; Answer Wrap-up Help Session.  \nComputer &amp\; Internet \n\
n\n\n \n\nFor all virtual learning sessions\, a computer and internet con
nection are mandatory\, and an extra screen connected to your computer (su
ch as a monitor) is recommended. Having dual screens can allow you to part
icipate in the virtual session while also navigating the RAP &amp\; Google
Earth Pro sites.  \n\nSeries 1: Learn how to navigate and effectively u
se RAP Production Explorer and Stock Smart to support grazing management d
ecisions. We’ll walk through how to explore these application’s intera
ctive vegetation data\, how to interpret trends over time\, export and sav
e data\, and apply forage production insights directly to your ranching op
 eration.  \n\nAdditionally\, you’ll get a high-level introduction to h
ow Google Earth Pro compliments stocking rate tools in custom ranch mappin
 g. Google Earth Pro allows you to draw custom features\, such as pastures\
, that can then be used with applications such as RAP\, Stock Smart\, and
OnX\, helping you to continuously and accurately interpret location-specif
ic vegetation and forage conditions. \n\nSeries 2: Learn how to use Googl
e Earth Pro to map ranch infrastructure and landscape features. This will
include an overview of how to create and save points\, lines\, and polygon
s in Google Earth Pro to map features such as pastures\, pipelines\, and p
oints of interest. This series will teach you how to export custom feature
s to use on a mobile device and in stocking rate applications for easy &am
p\; expedited analysis\, and access to navigable maps while out in the fie
ld.  \n\nSeries 3: Question and Answer Help session for any follow up qu
estions.  \n\nNote- Each series will come with a step-by-step PDF docume
nt that describes the topics and tools that were covered and additional re
sources.  \nIt’s strongly recommended to join every session for the mo
st in-depth understanding\, but perfect attendance is not a requirement.\n
