SUMMARY:Virtual Classroom: Mapping with Maida Series 2
DESCRIPTION:Mapping with Maida: Introduction to Stocking Rate Tools &amp\;
DIY Ranch Mapping  \nThis event has now past. Below are the resources th
at Maida recommended during the webinar.\nResources:\n\n\n Mapping with M
aida Resource Document: https://tinyurl.com/rf5yt7we\n Learning Document:

Qk\n\nThe Zoom Link is the same for all three webinars.  (PLEASE NOTE: Yo
u will be registering for the entire series.  It is not necessary to regi
ster for each webinar separately.)\nOverview of this Mapping Learning Seri
 es \nJanuary 6th\, 13th and 20th-  2pm-4pm\n\nThis learning series offer
s an introduction and hands-on tutorial to three free mapping applications
commonly used in rangeland agriculture: the Rangeland Analysis Platform (
RAP) Production Explorer\, Stock Smart\, and Google Earth Pro. RAP and Sto
ck Smart are  stocking rate calculation tools that help land managers ass
ess forage production and make data-driven grazing management decisions. G
oogle Earth Pro\, on the other hand\, will be used for do-it-yourself ranc
h mapping\, allowing participants to create and save detailed maps of infr
astructure such as fences\, pipelines\, and stock tanks. Together\, these
geospatial mapping tools can help support grazing management decisions and
give landowners a practical and accessible ways to plan\, visualize\, and
manage rangeland resources. \n\nNo prior mapping experience is needed—
this series is designed for beginners! All tools and services covered are
open source\, completely free\, and best accessed on a computer (tablets a
re not recommended). \nThe course will be led by Maida Knapton\, Mapping
&amp\; GIS Specialist at the Ranchers Stewardship Alliance. Maida brings e
xpertise in mapping education\, technical support for producers\, data ana
lysis\, and drone imaging\, making her a valuable guide throughout this se
ries. \nAbout the Stocking Rate Calculation Tools &amp\; Google Earth Pro
\nThe Range Land Analysis Platform (RAP) Production Explorer &amp\; Stoc
k Smart are online mapping tools that utilize satellite imagery to map and
monitor vegetation across the rangelands of the United States. The RAP Pr
oduction Explorer is useful in monitoring and analyzing trends in range co
nditions across time since 1989 and calculating pasture specific stocking
numbers based on heard variables. Stock Smart is useful in monitoring pres
ent day vegetation conditions and calculating stocking numbers based on fa
ctors in heard variables and physical grazing variables such as water sour
 ce locations\, grass utilization\, and slope. \n\nGoogle Earth Pro is a d
esktop application that offers powerful mapping tools for both professiona
l and casual users. Users can utilize tools for measuring distance\, area\
, and elevation\, draw points\, lines and polygons\, import and export map
data\, and explore satellite imagery from both the past and present. Addi
tionally\, the points\, lines\, and polygons you make in Google Earth Pro
can be exported and used in other applications such as OnX\, RAP Productio
 n Explorer\, and Stock Smart. Whether you're customizing maps\, checking o
ut land features\, planning out a pipeline\, sharing a gate location with
a neighbor\, or trying to get the most out of a pasture\, it's a handy too
l for all kinds of mapping needs.  \nDetailed Schedule \nThe virtual le
arning series will include three 2-hour blocks in total throughout January
  2026. See the schedule below for more details.    \n\n\n\nDate &amp\;
  Time \nLearning Overview \nRequired Materials \n\n\nTuesday January 6t
 h from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 1: Introduction to the Rangeland Analysis Pla
 tform Production Explorer\, Stock Smart\, &amp\; a quick overview of the s
ignificance of Google Earth Pro in ranch mapping.  \nComputer &amp\; Inte
 rnet \n\n\nTuesday January 13th from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 2: Do It Yours
elf (DIY) ranch mapping &amp\; inventory in Google Earth Pro. How to map\,
save and export landscape features.  \nComputer &amp\; Internet \n\n\n
 Tuesday January 20th from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 3: Question &amp\; Answer
 Wrap-up Help Session.  \nComputer &amp\; Internet \n\n\n\n \n\nFor all
virtual learning sessions\, a computer and internet connection are mandat
ory\, and an extra screen connected to your computer (such as a monitor) i
s recommended. Having dual screens can allow you to participate in the vir
tual session while also navigating the RAP &amp\; Google Earth Pro sites.
\n\nSeries 1: Learn how to navigate and effectively use RAP Production
Explorer and Stock Smart to support grazing management decisions. We’ll
walk through how to explore these application’s interactive vegetation
data\, how to interpret trends over time\, export and save data\, and appl
y forage production insights directly to your ranching operation.  \n\nA
 dditionally\, you’ll get a high-level introduction to how Google Earth P
ro compliments stocking rate tools in custom ranch mapping. Google Earth P
ro allows you to draw custom features\, such as pastures\, that can then b
e used with applications such as RAP\, Stock Smart\, and OnX\, helping you
to continuously and accurately interpret location-specific vegetation and
forage conditions. \n\nSeries 2: Learn how to use Google Earth Pro to ma
p ranch infrastructure and landscape features. This will include an overvi
ew of how to create and save points\, lines\, and polygons in Google Earth
Pro to map features such as pastures\, pipelines\, and points of interest
. This series will teach you how to export custom features to use on a mob
ile device and in stocking rate applications for easy &amp\; expedited ana
lysis\, and access to navigable maps while out in the field.  \n\nSeries
3: Question and Answer Help session for any follow up questions.  \n\nN
ote- Each series will come with a step-by-step PDF document that describes
the topics and tools that were covered and additional resources.  \nIt
’s strongly recommended to join every session for the most in-depth unde
rstanding\, but perfect attendance is not a requirement.\nSeries 1 YouTube
