SUMMARY:Virtual Classroom: Mapping with Maida Series 1
DESCRIPTION:Mapping with Maida: Introduction to Stocking Rate Tools &amp\;
DIY Ranch Mapping  \nThis event has now past. Below are the resources th
at Maida recommended during the webinar.\n\n\n YouTube Video- https://you
 tu.be/SmKJGHR40pE\n PDF- https://tinyurl.com/cc44taje\n\nThe Zoom Link i
s the same for all three webinars.  (PLEASE NOTE: You will be registering
for the entire series.  It is not necessary to register for each webinar
  separately.)\nOverview of this Mapping Learning Series \nJanuary 6th\, 1
3th and 20th-  2pm-4pm\n\nThis learning series offers an introduction and
hands-on tutorial to three free mapping applications commonly used in ran
geland agriculture: the Rangeland Analysis Platform (RAP) Production Explo
rer\, Stock Smart\, and Google Earth Pro. RAP and Stock Smart are  stocki
ng rate calculation tools that help land managers assess forage production
and make data-driven grazing management decisions. Google Earth Pro\, on
the other hand\, will be used for do-it-yourself ranch mapping\, allowing
participants to create and save detailed maps of infrastructure such as fe
nces\, pipelines\, and stock tanks. Together\, these geospatial mapping to
ols can help support grazing management decisions and give landowners a pr
actical and accessible ways to plan\, visualize\, and manage rangeland res
ources. \n\nNo prior mapping experience is needed—this series is design
ed for beginners! All tools and services covered are open source\, complet
ely free\, and best accessed on a computer (tablets are not recommended).
\nThe course will be led by Maida Knapton\, Mapping &amp\; GIS Specialis
t at the Ranchers Stewardship Alliance. Maida brings expertise in mapping
education\, technical support for producers\, data analysis\, and drone im
aging\, making her a valuable guide throughout this series. \nAbout the S
tocking Rate Calculation Tools &amp\; Google Earth Pro \nThe Range Land A
nalysis Platform (RAP) Production Explorer &amp\; Stock Smart are online m
apping tools that utilize satellite imagery to map and monitor vegetation
across the rangelands of the United States. The RAP Production Explorer is
useful in monitoring and analyzing trends in range conditions across time
since 1989 and calculating pasture specific stocking numbers based on hea
rd variables. Stock Smart is useful in monitoring present day vegetation c
onditions and calculating stocking numbers based on factors in heard varia
bles and physical grazing variables such as water source locations\, grass
utilization\, and slope. \n\nGoogle Earth Pro is a desktop application t
hat offers powerful mapping tools for both professional and casual users.
Users can utilize tools for measuring distance\, area\, and elevation\, dr
aw points\, lines and polygons\, import and export map data\, and explore
satellite imagery from both the past and present. Additionally\, the point
s\, lines\, and polygons you make in Google Earth Pro can be exported and
used in other applications such as OnX\, RAP Production Explorer\, and Sto
ck Smart. Whether you're customizing maps\, checking out land features\, p
lanning out a pipeline\, sharing a gate location with a neighbor\, or tryi
ng to get the most out of a pasture\, it's a handy tool for all kinds of m
apping needs.  \nDetailed Schedule \nThe virtual learning series will i
nclude three 2-hour blocks in total throughout January 2026. See the sched
ule below for more details.    \n\n\n\nDate &amp\; Time \nLearning Ov
 erview \nRequired Materials \n\n\nTuesday January 6th from 2pm – 4pm
\nSeries 1: Introduction to the Rangeland Analysis Platform Production Exp
lorer\, Stock Smart\, &amp\; a quick overview of the significance of Googl
e Earth Pro in ranch mapping.  \nComputer &amp\; Internet \n\n\nTuesday
 January 13th from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 2: Do It Yourself (DIY) ranch mapp
ing &amp\; inventory in Google Earth Pro. How to map\, save and export lan
 dscape features.  \nComputer &amp\; Internet \n\n\nTuesday January 20th
  from 2pm – 4pm \nSeries 3: Question &amp\; Answer Wrap-up Help Session
 .  \nComputer &amp\; Internet \n\n\n\n \n\nFor all virtual learning se
ssions\, a computer and internet connection are mandatory\, and an extra s
creen connected to your computer (such as a monitor) is recommended. Havin
g dual screens can allow you to participate in the virtual session while a
lso navigating the RAP &amp\; Google Earth Pro sites.  \n\nSeries 1: Lea
rn how to navigate and effectively use RAP Production Explorer and Stock S
mart to support grazing management decisions. We’ll walk through how to
explore these application’s interactive vegetation data\, how to interpr
et trends over time\, export and save data\, and apply forage production i
nsights directly to your ranching operation.  \n\nAdditionally\, you’l
l get a high-level introduction to how Google Earth Pro compliments stocki
ng rate tools in custom ranch mapping. Google Earth Pro allows you to draw
custom features\, such as pastures\, that can then be used with applicati
ons such as RAP\, Stock Smart\, and OnX\, helping you to continuously and
accurately interpret location-specific vegetation and forage conditions.
\n\nSeries 2: Learn how to use Google Earth Pro to map ranch infrastructur
e and landscape features. This will include an overview of how to create a
nd save points\, lines\, and polygons in Google Earth Pro to map features
such as pastures\, pipelines\, and points of interest. This series will te
ach you how to export custom features to use on a mobile device and in sto
cking rate applications for easy &amp\; expedited analysis\, and access to
navigable maps while out in the field.  \n\nSeries 3: Question and Answ
er Help session for any follow up questions.  \n\nNote- Each series will
come with a step-by-step PDF document that describes the topics and tools
that were covered and additional resources.  \nIt’s strongly recommen
ded to join every session for the most in-depth understanding\, but perfec
 t attendance is not a requirement.\n&nbsp\;
