  for a third year!\n\nIn 2023\, the second in our four-part series feature
 s Montana State University's Dr. Eric Belasco and Dr. Megan Van Emon\, Mon
 tana State University Extension.\nDr. Eric Belasco is a professor of
  Agricultural Economics at Montana State University where he teaches cours
 es in agricultural policy\, financial engineering\, and agricultural marke
 ting. He received his PhD and MS in Economics from North Carolina State Un
 iversity and his BS in Economics from Saint Mary’s College of California
 . His research focuses in the areas of agricultural technology\, financial
  engineering\, crop insurance\, farm policy\, and risk management\, which 
 includes 34 peer-reviewed journal articles and two book chapters. Belasc
 ocurrently serves as an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Agr
 icultural Economicsand the Agricultural Finance Review and is a former
  President of the Western Agricultural Economics Association.\n\nDr. Megan
  Van Emon has been an Extension Beef Cattle Specialist at Montana State Un
 iversity since 2014. Her research focuses on supplementation strategies\, 
 cow-calf production\, drought management and water quality. Dr. Van Emon
 ’s research and extension programs focus on improving beef cattle produc
 tion in Montana and throughout the United States. For the past few years\,
  Megan has been focusing on beef cattle drought management in her Extensio
 n programming. Dr. Van Emon grew up on a small farm in Northeast Indiana. 
 She received her B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science from Purdue University an
 d her Ph.D. in Ruminant Nutrition at North Dakota State University. Megan 
 was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Iowa State University before joi
 ning the Animal and Range Sciences faculty at MSU. She is located off-camp
 us at USDA-ARS Fort Keogh in Miles City.\nBoth nationally and regionally\,
  beef cattle populations are down. How dire is that reality? Dr. Belasco w
 ill update us with the latest data and tell the tale of how we got here. W
 ith drought still a lingering regional question\, what's the next step? Fr
 om cattle retention at a time of uncertainty to replacement cattle selecti
 on when Mother Nature allows\, Dr. Van Emon will dive into strategies that
